2.4 Linda West

Summer 1995, The Blue Velvet

Linda and Mae sat down on the upper floor, where they had a grand piano placed.

"This lounge is really cool! I did not expect that from a glam place like this!", Mae said, obviously surprised.

They ordered a drink, and listened to the pianist.

"The music is beautiful!", Mae stated after a while. Mae never was into classical music, but Chopin's Nocturnes were beautiful.

"Also Linda, you told me you work now on your dissertation in that lab - but what about your love live? You got yourself a nerd?", she smirked.

Straight to the point what she was always really interested in, Linda thought.

She had to chuckle. "Actually, no! He's a guitarist in a band", she said.

"Ehhhh? How weird! Tell me about him!" Mae demanded.

What was so weird about it? Just because Linda was interested in science, didn't mean she could only mingle with people from her profession?

"Well, I'm dating Alejandro Gonzales, from Deep Rift!", she said, almost a little bit proud.

It was some sort of dating, after all? They went out occasionally.

"WHAT?? Their guitarist?", Mae burst out. "But he is married, and he has like... 10 kids?"

So Mae actually heard about them? Well, they must have appeared in one of the gossip magazines Mae used to read.

"He has only four, because his wife wanted them!", Linda answered, feeling a bit disturbed.

"But this has no future! You think he's gonna leave his family for you?", Mae went on.

"It's nothing serious! I don't expect anything!", Linda got a little upset now.

Mae of all people, shouldn't tell her about this! Her sister wasn't exactly the monogamous type herself!

But from what Linda recalled, everything Mae did so far was with mutual consent.

She wondered if Alejandro's wife knew about her. She guessed not.

"But really... didn't you want to have a family of your own??", Mae didn't want to stop.

"Well, for now everything is good as it is!", Linda said.

Mae was seemingly disappointed about this answer.

"...I didn't expect you to be the other woman, ever, Linda..."

"That's none of your business, Mae! He cheats, not me!"

"...but - still..."

"Let's not talk about this anymore! And please stay out of this!"

Goodness. He's a father of four! And she is completely unfazed. I wonder how would she feel if she met those kids face to face.

Ok I'm sensing something off with Linda's reaction already. She doesn't strike me as the "other woman" type so I agree with her sister. Either she is completely lying to save her face from embarrassment or she is not being honest with herself.

4 Kids? Something tells me 4 Kids that he knows of. That Alejandro is a complete slime.

Poor Linda. Her sister is right. This is a recipe for trouble and Linda does not strike me as "other woman" material.

Oh man, I was hoping that everyone was in the know, but it seems like that might not be the case?
Linda, you need to ask if his wife is cool with this!

Oh...! What!? He's even more of a sleazeball than I thought.

For Linda to defend his honor by saying "He has only four, because his wife wanted them!" tells me that he's uses his wife as the go-to punching bag! EW. It doesn't matter if they have an open relationship/mutual fling/consent, he should treat the mother of his children with respect. GRRR I hope Linda realises this! Mae you tell her girl!

Lol the bickering about how many children he has is very amusing to me. "only four" 😆 Nice denial there, Linda 😅
