6.1 Diana Foster

Summer 1996, caravan park

Lana had cried the whole night again. Diana tried to feed her, nurse her, checked her diapers and changed them when necessary. But Lana only stayed calm when her mother held her.

Diana felt exhausted. Even though her daughter had been so quiet after birth, she became now quite needy. She rocked the baby again in her arms and humming a tune, hoping that she would finally fall asleep.

Eventually Lana did. Diana threw herself on the bed, trying to get a few hours of rest. She felt it impossible to find time to learn for the entry test.

She knew she needed to get a decently payed job, so she could support her daughter when she grew up.

Maybe she would have to think of a plan B, but not now.

Diana fell asleep.
