8.5 Diana Foster

Autumn 1996, Newcrest hospital

Diana examined carefully the medical thermometer.

"Good... the tempeature went back to normal. You can go home now!", she said, smiling to her patient.

"I see you're putting a lot of effort in taking care of the patients"

Dr. Hayashi appeared behind her. He was one of the physicians working in the infirmary for general medicine, where she started her job education.

Diana made a noise of surprise.

"Not really...", she answered then, "It's just a good feeling to see how the patients get better!"

She really came to like working in the hospital, even though it could be tough when she got the night shift.

"Well, you're doing a great job here!", the doctor assured her.

"Thank you!"

When she went out to the corridor, Diana joined her colleagues. Susan was ravishing about some romance movie she'd seen last weekend.

Zoe, the head nurse, listened attentively. She tried to make out if it was good date material for her and her fiancé.

"Oh!", she cried out suddenly. Then she whispered anxiously: "My father is coming!"

But too late. Dr. Patel was furious.

"You two! What are you standing here?! Is there no work to do?", he bellowed at Diana and Susan.

"Zoe! You should be more strikt with your subordinates, instead of chatting! We have a lot of patients!", Diana heard him going on, scolding his daughter, when she left back to the examination room.

She had to laugh. The doctor looked so funny when he was angry.
